Blackpool Pleasure Beach

A historic seaside amusement park located in North-West England.

Opinions on The Park

Jason:
Really cool Wooden Coasters with tonnes of history, and a great vintage vibe in some places, shame the big dipper was down. Steeplechase is a must ride and I hope it stays. Icon is near world class and the way it interacts with the other rides is brilliant. For all the vintage charm some parts do also have that tacky rundown seaside vibe, feels like it is stuck in transition but is also at the point where the older rides have so much history to them can they really remove them?

Kate:
Has kept its seaside amusements feeling well considering the growth. Operations were lacking and Icon being announced to close for maintenance the day of after only being open for 2hrs didn’t set a great tone for the beginning of the day. Fun but lacking in some areas.

Rollercoasters

Number at the Park - 10

Number Ridden - 9

Below are information and opinions on the roller coasters we have ridden.

Big One

Manufactured by - Arrow Dynamics

Opened - 1994

Jason:
What a location for a hyper, stunning view. Wind and rain added to the charm and felt like you might fly off the track. Was not particularly smooth nor rough. First drop was brilliant, fast and steep as you wrap around the corner. Ride does not know what to do on its way back to the station. Older trains and restraints might be restricting potential air time moments which would elevate it.

Kate:
A lot of fun even if the wind and rain made it feel like my face was being Sandblasted.

Avalanche

Manufactured by - Mack Rides

Jason:
Keeps its speed, feels great around the corners. Like being in Cool Runnings its just not as high or long as Trace Du Hourra. Still a must experience especially if you have not ridden a bobsleigh coaster.

Opened - 1988

Kate:
Tight compact bobsled coaster but not as long nor as good as Trace Du Hourra. Still fun though.

Icon

Manufactured by - Mack Rides

Jason:
So close to being one of the best rides in the UK if not the best, great initial launch into a top hat, lots of air time and good forces in the corners as it expertly intertwines with a few other iconic rides. Second launch is sublime, a very elegant coaster even in the wind and rain. It does just autocomplete at the end.

Opened - 2018

Kate:
Thrilling launch coaster that benefits from how it weaves between the other rides.

Grand National

Manufactured by - Charles Paige

Jason:
You can feel every nut and bolt for better or worse, great speed and some good air time moments. The racing adds a lot to the experience, especially with kids in the same group swearing at each other.

Opened - 1935

Kate:
Old fashioned woodie that’s a little rough but I would be worried if it wasn’t considering how old it is.

Steeplechase

Manufactured by - Arrow Dynamics

Jason:
Very fun ride, a must-ride for the history and uniqueness alone. one of the roughest in the park in places and it feels like you could fall off or hit part of the theming but once you finally win it is all worth it.

Opened - 1977

Kate:
Like those kiddie horse rides but no max height limit, really enjoyable even if one bend gives you a bruise.

Infusion

Manufactured by - Vekoma

Jason:
I liked it, cool location in the shadow of 2 classics, big one and big dipper, and being over water always adds to a ride especially when there are jets and fountains all around. Bit short but has some good near misses and a decent layout don't get the hate for SLCs (got the hate in Poland though).

Opened - 2007

Kate:
Not the worst SLC I’ve ridden, but still an SLC.

Blue Flyer

Manufactured by - Charles Paige

Jason:
I used to like rollercoasters till I took a Blue Flyer to the knee. Good speed for a my first rollercoaster. Not so good for a my 50somethingth rollercoaster.

Opened - 1934

Kate:
Rows far too small for two adults together, longer than expected, it was okay.

Nickelodeon Streak

Manufactured by - Charles Paige

Jason:
Probably my favourite woodie in the park. Really old, bright and colourful better air time than Grand National, very compact and runs along the outskirts of the park so you can wave or swear at oncoming cars, which is always fun. I imagine if you can get a truck to honk it would be the best ride in the world.

Opened - 1933

Kate:
I really liked it and I don’t think most people would realise just how old it is.

Revolution

Manufactured by - Arrow Dynamics

Jason:
I died twice, I greyed out, I had fun. Good ride, cool history and the station in itself if pretty thrilling being located what feels like half way to the top of big one.

Opened - 1979

Kate:
A workout to get to the loading and a speed bump in the ride. Worth it if the queue isn’t too big.
